Consultation Launched On Plans To Downgrade Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital

As we have been warning of for many years, local NHS bosses have now (06/01/2020) begun a formal consultation on the future of hospital provision in SW London and Surrey.

If allowed to proceed, this plan would result in the downgrade of ONE OR BOTH of Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital.

As predicted, Local NHS bosses have decided that their "preferred option" is for Epsom hospital and St Helier hospital to lose their A&E, Maternity, Paediatrics, Intensive Care, Cancer Care, Coronary Care, Emergency Surgery and Emergency Medicine services.

Then, they say that they would like to build a new, single, smaller, "Acute facility" adjacent to the Royal Marsden hospital in Belmont. That facility would:
- Have fewer beds
- Be staffed by fewer consultant doctors
- Be further away from most people
- Only be accessible via emergency ambulance or GP referral.

As you will see from the videos on this page, the people attending the meeting asked a lot of good questions, but the board seemed unable, or perhaps unwilling to give proper answers to the questions:

We will be adding more video content to this page in the next few days, so do check back soon.

Please share these videos, this post, and the word about the fate of our local major acute hospitals.
